Talamh Chronicles Timeline
The Canri and Kingdom Calendars The world of Talamh does not have a unified calendar. Instead, each region has developed its own calendar based on the history of its people and rulers. Two of these calendars feature predominantly in the Talamh Chronicles, those of Canri and The Kingdom. The Canri system started in the year the city of Canri was founded (0 Anno Canri Conditae) and has run continuously ever since. The Kingdom system started in the year Alistair al-Seamus, Third Lord of Kincaid, declared himself king and commenced the conquest of the continent which would become known as The Kingdom. The years are named after the king who ruled at the time, starting with the first full year in which he reigned, and ending at the end of the year during which he died. The Inchlass Calendar As a semi-autonomous region of The Kingdom, Inchlass officially follows The Kingdom calendar. For internal affairs, however, it uses its own, similar system, based upon the reign of the Princes who rule the island. This calendar is used in the Amast books.
The Dark Times After The Breaking, society collapsed, the ideals and religion which had unified the world’s people were lost or abandoned, and survival of the individual or family took priority, Uncounted years passed before new religions and societies emerged from The Dark Times.
-50 Pre-Canri (PC) to -30 PC The First Vortai is born and begins the rebellion against the region’s Andistalkern rulers. More details of this time are revealed in The Captive and The Carer.
The Breaking An event now either forgotten or considered myth, The Breaking resulted in the loss of the true gods and the creation of the Andistalkern. The story of this time will be told in the Origins books. (To be written after the Andistalkern Sequence.)
-30 PC (Pre-Canri) to -1 PC The Andistalkern-Vortai war.
0 Anno Canri Conditae (ACC) The Vortai win the war and the city of Canri is founded. Conquest of the continent begins.
1st Year of the Reign of King Alistair al-Seamus (KAS)/78 ACC Alistair al-Seamus, Third Lord of Kincaid, conquers his neighbour and declares himself king. This begins a war to conquer the entire continent, which will come to be known as The Kingdom. His rise coincides with that of the godsmen, preachers of the new gods.
19 KKA-24 KKA/157-162 ACC During the reign of King Kenrick al-Ailin, the vision of King Alistair is brought to fruition as Inchlass Island becomes the final region to come under Kingdom rule. The books The Musician and The Prince, The Lovers and The Lovelorn, and The Founders are set during this time.
~170-300 ACC A time of exploration begins for both nations. Canri becomes the dominant nation in the south, and The Kingdom in the north. The Kingdom commences conquest of a large continent discovered to the west. The Canri prefer to establish trade routes with their neighbours.
32 KAF/323 ACC Onwards Lady Morgain, ruler of the al-Rafael region of The Kingdom, seeks to establish a trade agreement with the Canri. It soon becomes apparent, however, that trade is not her only motive, and that others pose a threat to her delegation. Start of The Andistalkern Sequence.
