The Temple. Religious centre of Canri, where the Vortai hold council.
The Retreat. Home for Vortai who have retired or been Sealed.
Canri City Districts (Running anti-clockwise, starting in the NE)
Upper. Home of the Vortai, Magistra and higher ranking Canri.
Residential. Home to the rest of the Canri.
Foreign. Home to all foreigners and the embassies.
Industrial. Home to all large scale industry within the city.
Trade. Where all imported and exported goods are bought and sold.
Groups
Blå Jackor, The (The Blue Jackets). Branch of the Canri military in which enlisted men and women serve.
City Guard, The. Military force which mans the city’s gates and walls. Responsible for controlling the flow of people into
and out of the city.
Enforcers, The. Canri equivalent to the police.
First Vortai, The. The group of Vortai, led by The First, who overthrew their Andistalkern rulers and founded the city of
Canri.
Gula Jackor, The (The Yellow Jackets). Branch of the Canri military in which conscripts serve. All able-bodied Canri
(male and female) are required to serve a minimum of one year after completing their formal schooling.
Gröna Diamanter (Green Diamonds). Criminal organisation operating within Canri.
Magistra. The people responsible for enforcing Canri's laws.
People, The. Name the Canri people use to refer to themselves.
Vortai. The Canri religious leaders and users of the Song. Easily recognised by their facial scars and tattoos.
Gods
Givarenvatten (Giver of Water). Twin to Mossanjätte. Together, they are the life-givers and death-bringers.
Represented by the seas.
Skapare av Alla Saker (The Maker of All Things). Firstborn of the gods, he created the lesser gods and, for them, the
heavens and Earth, using the stuff of the Song.
Månstråle (Moonbeam). God of guidance, compassion and deception. Represented by the Moon.
Mossanjätte (Moss Giant). Twin to Givarenvatten. Together, they are the life-givers and death-bringers. Represented by
earth and mountains.
Soleld (Sunfire). God of renewal, warmth, and destruction. Represented by the Sun.
The Song of the Gods (often referred to as The Song)
The magic engaged by the Vortai. As Antonius said, “The Song of the Gods is more than music. It is more than the
patterns those without the Sight can see. It is sight, sound, touch and taste combined into a complex Pattern. It is the
core—the essence—of every blade of grass, breath of air, drop of water and spark of fire. It is life, substance and soul. It
surrounds you, fills you and lifts you.”
Terms of usage
Create. Create a Pattern that alters or affects other Patterns.
Feel. Use the Sight to sense the vibrations created by Patterns.
Full Focus. A Vortai who is able to See the full depths of a Pattern.
Manipulate. Alter an already existing Pattern.
Pattern. The unseen essence that forms The Song in all things, living and unliving.
pattern (lower case). The physical pattern a normal person sees when a Vortai manipulates The Song. Can be in the
form of a painting/tattoo/building/etc. Smaller patterns are often seen changing/mutating.
Projection. The mental reflection of a person’s physical form.
Scar Pattern. The scars and tattoos on a Vortai’s face. Every Scar Pattern is unique.
Seal. To cut a Vortai’s Pattern off from sight, sound and speech, effectively denying them access to The Song.
Sight/Seeing. The means by which Vortai See Patterns.
step back/sideways/into. The mental step taken to move from body to mind and from mind to memory.
Touch. The touch of a Vortai mind on a Pattern.
Coinage
Quart. Large round gold coin. Two quarts are roughly equal to three Kingdom Octains.
Quartain. Large copper coin. Equal to six Kingdom rounds.
Things
Black Sludge. A substance used by the Gröna Diamanter to counter the effects of Vortai magic. Burns Vortai and is
invisible to their Sight.
A Pledge. A gift given by lovers to show their commitment. The step before a formal engagement.
Places
al-Arran Household. Home of the al-Arrans.
al-Rafael Household. Home of the Rafaels.
Cairn. Capital city of The Kingdom.
Craghallow. Town where Chrisandor was born.
Crossroads Lodge. An Inn part-way between the al-Rafael Household and Star Bay.
Dunbroch. Tower Fortress. Gate to Monadailshire.
Fearann-Cridhe (Pronounced Feran-Cree). Heartland. Capital of Monadailshire.
Fourtrees Crossing. Small town in the south of The Kingdom where Chrisandor had his first journeyman’s position.
Inchlass. An Island to the SE of The Kingdom.
Monadailshire (Mountainous shire). Semi-autonomous state in The Kingdom.
Star Bay. Harbour town where The Hunter docked.
up-Arran Household. Home of the up-Arrans.
Old Gods
The old gods are believed to be a race of spirits who inhabit natural phenomena such as springs, volcanoes, mountains,
and forests. Each spirit has its own personality, often related to its habitat, and will use its powers to help those who
offer it gifts, or to thwart those whom it dislikes. Worship of the old gods has fallen out of favour in most of the
Kingdom, but is still popular in Monadailshire.
Áinfean. Lives in the clouds. Sometimes seen tossing thunderbolts at the ground when angered.
Frazier Wood Walker. Wanders the woods of Monadailshire, protecting them from anyone who would do them harm.
Struana. Goddess of the spring on the Farrell’s estate. Is said to bless those who leave offerings with good health and
fertility.
New Gods
Dolius Mendacus. Five Faced God of Deceit and Lies.
Mortis Damis. God of Death. The full moon is said to be his unblinking eye.
Praesul Vita. Protector of Life.
Prehen Damis. God of Souls.
Uber Familia. God of Family and Fertility.
Kingdom Coinage
Octain. Eight-sided gold coin. Can be split into eight 'bits', each worth two pentains.
Pentain. Five-sided silver coin. Can be split into five 'bits', each worth five rounds.
Round. Round copper coin. Can be split in half.
Things
The Gods' Words (AKA The Book of Words). The religious text of the new gods.
The Vortex. The place where souls are sent to await judgement. Those found unworthy are trapped there until their
reborn spirits earn redemption in the physical world.
